You want to create a sustainable future but struggle with the fear of trying out reusable nappies because you think they are more expensive, Well, fear no more! Please allow us to ‘poop’ these misconceptions.

An average baby goes through anywhere from four to ten nappy changes a day, using approximately 6,250 disposable nappies weighing approximately 240kg and costing £3075 in their lifetime. Using disposal nappies is expensive and adds on strain to the disposal process. In addition, did you know many disposable nappies contain various chemicals to increase absorbency and are made from plastic composites?

This combination of materials pressed together tightly is the reason why disposable nappies cannot be recycled. Across the UK, around 8 million single-use nappies area disposed on a daily basis causing rubbish bins to overflow and smell.

Reusable nappies have come a long way since the terry towel and other traditional cloth nappies. The modern reusable nappies are easy to use and stylish. Modern reusable nappies are washing machine friendly and are often made of natural fabrics such as organic cotton or bamboo that are gentle to babies’ sensitive skin.

Although reusable nappies may have an upfront of anywhere from £300-£400 for the complete set, they do pay off half way through your baby’s journey to using nappies! The amount you can save from using reusable nappies depends on the frequency of use and whether you have plans to use them on your next child.

Choosing the right reusable nappies and investing a big sum upfront can be daunting. At West London Waste Authority, we offer residents from the London Boroughs of Brent, Ealing, Harrow, Hounslow, Hillingdon or Richmond-upon-Thames the opportunity to borrow a trial pack containing various types and sizes of reusable nappies to use for three weeks for FREE.

You can request a trial pack from our West London Nappies website www.westlondonnappies.com
